The Whole Brain Game™ 1999 Games magazine articleHere's an unusual workout to test your mental flexibility. This game invites you to think in novel ways about familiar objects, actions, and descriptions. Two hundred category cards display six words each. These are used to fill in the blanks of a randomly drawn instruction card. Instruction #4, for example, says, "List all the different kinds of ___ that you can think of." Suppose the word in the blank is "ring". You can say, diamond ring, earring, "Ring around the Rosy, " Ring Dings, Pacific Ring of Fire, and three-ring circus. All of which are acceptable answers. Other thought-provoking questions ask you to imagine in what ways you might use a certain power, or how two types of objects might be use together. Lewis Carroll once asked why a raven is like a writing desk; if he'd had this game, he'd have figured it out. -RHK |
